Castles and Medieval Towns

While my in-laws and Family were in town we ventured out to two local towns. The first one is Bassano del Grappa which is known for grappa. For those who are not aware of what grappa is, it is a moonshine type liquor that is made from distilling the skins, pulp, seeds, and stems left over from winemaking after pressing the grapes.

We got lucky and were able to join in with the locals for the market day as well as get great pictures of the famous bridge which was designed by the architect Andrea Palladio in 1569. The bridge was destroyed many times, the last time during WWII. The Alpine soldiers, or Alpini have always revered the wooden bridge and Bassano del Grappa. After the destruction of the bridge, they took up a private collection and had the bridge completely rebuilt. Often soldiers flock to the bridge to remember and sing songs from their days as alpine soldiers. The grappa shop of Nardini Distillery is located on the bridge, known as Ponte degli Alpini.(you kind find more information on Bassano del Grappa http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bassano_del_Grappa)

Next we went to a small town called Soave(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soave)

Last but not least is a place called Cittadella which is a medieval walled city. It is really impressive that this is in such great condition. The tour around the walls and the city is not for those who are afraid of heights. It is a great place to go and visit when you have a mellow day to just drink cafe and enjoy the weather while taking a nice leisurely walk.

Self proclaimed foodie who enjoys going on edible adventures. Sharing my love of Booze, sexy things, food, photography and travel.
